Quiz night

Some of the feedback that we have received:

We did it again!! SPTRA organised another successful Quiz Night. Building on a history of making our guests very happy, this last Quiz Night was fully booked two weeks after we'd announced its date. In the last 24 hours, before the event, we re-arranged the seating on some tables to accommodate a few more guests. Congratulations to the returning champions Judy and Jeffrey Forrest, Pat and Mike Landon, Susie Abell, and Brian Durrans. "We did it as a Team" they noted as they were receiving their prizes. The team spirit and the desire to give you the best have always been our goal. Your very positive feedbacks and appreciation keep us going. Our Quiz Master Extraordinaire Glenn Young challenged us with hard questions. Sarah kept track of our points in a very meticulous and transparent way.

After the first 5 rounds of 50 questions, food was served. Your returning Master Chefs Judy Forrest and Suzanne Tanswell prepared 100 servings between starters and the selection of three main courses. Our Master Patissiers Portia Quinn, Julie Porter, Jenik Wilkins, and Tim Heymans and Blaise Melagrano presented the audience with a selection of three delicious options that were served at each table and one whole cake that was donated to the draw. Don Tanswell helped with the main set-up, transport, tidying, and recycling all wine bottles. Jeffrey Forrest helped with the food serving and the tidying. The team spirit was strengthened by our audience who chipped in with various tasks to prove that every little helps. Susie Abell rolled her sleeves and did the washing up. Ann and Peter Cumming were by her side towel-drying and tidying. Cllr Malcolm came a bit early and helped with table setting. Rick McLeod, Ant Upton, and Rob Selkirk helped with the tidying. A huge THANK YOU to each and to everyone. Positive teams like you moves mountains and a great community like ours makes every bit if this hard work very well worthwhile.

It has been a great pleasure, folks.
As ever,
Suzanne Tanswell

Ealing Borough Police NHW Co-ordinators Training Event

Suzanne Tanswell reports: This Police event took place on 3 March from 19:00 - 22:00. I was there with Dilys Jones and Peter Cumming, two NW co-ordinators from SPTRA. The focus of the information revolved around spams/scams, licensed premises, and a role-play about preventing burglaries. Here are the main outcomes.

Scams/Spams

Report scams to www.actionfraud.org.uk Tel: 0300 123 2040
Some useful sites: www.met.police.uk/fraudalert; www.thinkjessica.com

Preventing bogus callers from entering your premises
Sgt Holloway and her team performed a brilliant role play. Please don't let anyone in without checking their IDs even if they said they are from your utilities companies. Also be careful when children claim that a ball has landed in your back garden.
Summary: Give bogus callers the SACK

Licensed Premises
Some places are selling counterfeit alcohol, mainly vodka and Scotch. They use bleached and bottled screen wash and/or anti-freeze for vodka. The same ingredients are also used for whiskey with an addition of a browning agent. Continue to use a reliable store/supermarket to buy. The duty on a bottle of vodka is £6.97; so, a bottle selling for £8-£9 is not a bargain but a dangerous thing to drink.

Message in a Bottle
Please check this wonderful charity and decide if you'd like to have a sticker/bottle - www.lions.org.uk/health/miab/index.php
